About Wilder Frets

For our inaugural season, Wilder Frets: Classical Guitar in the Wilderness will tour across the state of Oregon from July 9–October 1, 2026. Led by classical guitar virtuoso and artistic director Tye Austin, the series replaces the traditional concert hall with immersive performances in remote natural settings—including state parks, farms, ranches, wineries, hot spring resorts, and other unique landscapes throughout the state.

Audiences experience each performance through wireless headphone technology, allowing them to move freely and explore the surrounding landscape within a quarter-mile radius as the music accompanies their wanderings through each Wilder setting. The season opens with four performances as part of our summer residency at Thistle & Bloom Lavender Farm. See all dates below.

About Thistle & Bloom

Thistle & Bloom Lavender Farm is a family-owned, earth-first organic lavender farm nestled in the rolling hills of Wilsonville, Oregon. Dedicated to sustainability and stewardship of the land, the farm grows a variety of lavender used to create natural, handcrafted products while offering visitors a peaceful, sensory-rich experience. During peak bloom in summer, guests can explore the fields, attend events like sunset picnics, and enjoy the beauty and calming atmosphere that the farm is known for.

Set among rows of blooming lavender, these concerts invite you to experience music in a truly immersive setting. Guests are welcome to relax near the stage, sit among the fragrant fields, or wander the property to discover a variety of lavender in shades of purple, white, pink, blue, and yellow. Each ticket includes a thoughtfully curated gourmet picnic basket featuring locally sourced charcuterie and house-made lavender lemonade crafted on-site. A selection of local wines will also be available for purchase.

About the Artist

Oregon-born classical guitarist and composer Tye Austin, M.M., is the principal headliner and Artistic Director of Wilder Frets, an innovative performance series that places the classical guitar at the center of immersive solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts in the natural world. A descendant of Spanish pirates from the Caribbean, Austin brings a personal and cultural connection to Spanish and Latin American guitar repertoire, informing his interpretations with a distinctive sense of authenticity and depth.

Hailed by NBC News for making “the guitar sing like it was invented only to be in his hands,” Austin is internationally recognized for his expressive virtuosity and artistic range. His performances have taken him to Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and major venues across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Career highlights include performing for 300 world leaders at the United Nations, for a former Prime Minister of Australia at the UN Plaza World Tower, and a performance and teaching residency in Shanghai, China, before serving as principal classical guitarist for Royal Caribbean International.

Under Austin’s leadership, Wilder Frets has emerged as a bold cultural initiative—merging world-class artistry, environmental immersion, and community engagement. Through these performances, Wilder Frets expands the reach of classical guitar while offering audiences a deeply human and transformative concert experience.
